How to make Spanish Sweet Toast (Torrijas de Leche)

  1. 1. The baguette should not be fresh; it's best to use slightly stale bread (leave it for a day). Slice the baguette into pieces about 1.5-2 cm thick. It's best to cut it slightly on the diagonal to get larger slices.

  2. 2. In a pot, heat the milk, honey, cinnamon, and lemon zest. Once it begins to boil, remove from heat and let it cool slightly.

  3. 3. Pour the milk mixture into a shallow dish and place the bread slices in it. Let the bread soak for about an hour, or until it absorbs all the liquid.

  4. 4. Beat the egg on a plate. Heat olive oil in a pan.

  5. 5. Dip the bread slices in the beaten egg on both sides, then fry them on both sides in the pan until golden and crispy.

  6. 6. Drain the crispy toast on a paper towel to remove excess oil.

  7. 7. Serve the torrijas with fresh washed fruit.
